Minister of Water and Energy Inspects Progress of Timur Canal Works in Kandahar Province

The Honorable Minister of Water and Energy, Hajj Mullah Muhammad Yunus Akhunzada, during his official visit to Kandahar Province, inspected the rehabilitation and cleaning works of the Timur Canal in the Maywand district of the province.
During the visit, the Honorable Minister called for accelerating the project’s works and completing it on schedule. He also issued necessary instructions and guidance to the relevant officials for more effective and better implementation of the project.
It is worth mentioning that this canal, with a headworks, has a height of 1 meter and a length of 260 meters. The total length of the canal is 1,170 meters, with a width of 7.5 meters and a depth of 3.5 meters. It has the capacity to irrigate approximately 1,839 hectares of agricultural land.Nearly 20,000 families will benefit from this canal.
The total cost of the project is contracted at around 110 million Afghanis. This canal is considered one of the important irrigation sources in the region and plays a vital role in irrigating agricultural lands, increasing agricultural production, and strengthening the local economy.
